> A figure of thought is broader than a philosopheme but smaller than a worldview or a Deleuzian image of thought. It is a gesture, a philosophical ‘move’ or, in the language of Le Système de Leibniz, a transversal ‘structure’ isomorphically common to a number of models. [@watkin_michel_2020, 380] *Le Gaucher boiteux*에서 [[Michel Serres|Serres]]는 8가지의 picture of the nature and function of figures에 대해서 이야기 한다. > they are present in the natural world, they introduce something new into a situation, they arise and are sustained bodily, not just mentally, they are invented and sustained in literature as well as in nature, they are framed as characters with proper names, they synthesise plural features, and they provide a richness of which abstract concepts are only ever a reductive abstraction. **8가지 키 features ([[@watkin_michel_2020]], 22-)** 1. figures are operators 1. receiving, emitting, storing and processing 2. 반복적으로 perform in new contexts and on different information 3. 2. natural phenomenon → emergence 1. emerge from ‘Great Story’ of the universe led from the emergence of matter through mineral 2. respond and adapt 3. from the movement of the Universe, of life, the body, of culture → emergent novelties 4. continuity between the way of the rhythms of nature and his own thought. ([[@watkin_michel_2020]], ch 4, 6) 3. figures are inventions 1. = ramifications (세분화) 4. human figures = product of the mind and the body 1. human figures are not always products of the mind but are also formed by and expressed in the body 5. literature figures 1. alive in the same sense as the figures of the natural world. 6. figures of characters 1. 신화 혹은 문학 (Hermes, Atlas, Harlequin, and Pierrot) 2. 일반적 (the paraiste, the pontifex, angels) 3. proper (Thumbelina, Bianca Castafiore, Ulysses, Grandpa Grumpy) ([[@watkin_michel_2020]], ch 3) 7. figures are synthetic 1. synthetic의 의미는 여기서 밖과 소통한다에 가까운듯 "can draw together and communicate a world" 2. ‘singular, original, unique of its sort, even marginal if you want, and in any case unexpected, a concrete character synthesises a whole world and often brings it into being’ (Le Gaucher boiteux, 53). 8. these figures are upstream of abstract ideas 1. abstract Residue ## Related Notes ```dataview LIST FROM [[figures of thought]] and -"Plans" and -"resources" ``` ## References
